Birmingham City University’s early years began with the merger of the five separate colleges into the City of Birmingham Polytechnic in 1971. The five institutions in question were the Birmingham School of Music, Birmingham College of Commerce, South Birmingham Technical College, and North Birmingham Technical College. Birmingham City University received university status in 1992. The university was also given a new name – the University of Central England at Birmingham in 1992. The university’s name was finally changed to Birmingham City University in 2007 along with a new logo that featured an updated tiger crest. The Birmingham City University campus consists of two main campuses, the City Center Campus and the City South Campus.
